Freedom Ultra 63K

Freedom Ultra 63k is a unique 63 km running race celebration of Kenya’s independence from Britain in 1963. The course is chosen to echo the year of independence, takes runners through forests and small villages, offering a unique journey through nature and community. This event adds a layer of meaning to trail running races, as it commemorates the nation’s journey to freedom, resilience, and pride. The race honors Kenya’s rich history and encourages deep connections with the land, people, and culture.

Race Briefing: 6.30 AM
Race Start: 7 AM

Location: Bamboo Green Shade Garden, Kimende

Distance: 63 kms

Registration Closes: once 30 runners signed up or 09-12-2025 9 PM EAT 

Route Description: Apart from 2 kms, the route is not paved and it is mostly dirt paths. Some places you may encounter steep muddy path down and up. It is not a technical terrain but hiking poles will come handy for slippery slopes.

Elevation Loss/Gain: 1210/1210 M

Time Limit: 11 Hours

Recommended gear:

    • Trail Shoes

    • Hydration Pack

    • Hiking Poles

    • A watch or phone with race route

    • Sunglasses and hat

    • Food: Gels, bars, fruit etc.

Prizes: No prizes, race results will appear in ITRA site and that will be the biggest prize.

ITRA Insurance is highly recommended and they offer coverage worldwide for runners. 

Pre-requisites for registration:

    1. ITRA profile (to create a free account https://itra.run/Account/Manage/Registration)

    1. Minimum completion of a marathon or an ultra race (results URL required)

NOTE: Please do not sign up for 63K without pre-requisites 1 and 2, once your registration is verified, you will receive a confirmation email.
